In many areas June brings the year's best weather. Our minds kind of float suspended between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, ready for summer to arrive full on.

While your mind dreams of summer you may also have serious work to do to fulfill your dreams - or just get through the day. We know from the questions we get that lots of people are in need of help. They may need a new place to live or a way to earn more income than they are receiving on Disability. Many hope to go to college but don't know how to pay for it.

Do you need a new place to live, or maybe you're even hoping to find help to buy a home? There are many sites that claim they can help you – for a fee – to get a grant to purchase a home. While that is just what you want to hear, you need to be wary. The bad news is that the federal government does not give grants to individuals to buy homes. The good news is that federal, state and local agencies do offer lots of help. And it's help that is typically free. Individual states can be a great source of grants and other financial support. When you do Internet searches for specific types of help be sure to include the name of your state – you'll get resources you might not find otherwise. If you live in Texas you have lots of options that have nothing to do with turning to the federal government for help – or at least not stopping there. There are lots of grants available that are specific to, and provided by, that state. You can find out a whole lot more about the opportunities available in our article Grants in Texas. Even if you live in another state you should check it out to see what types of grant-making agencies and benefits might be available where you live.

For students – or would-be students – here are three great money tips for help paying for school:

• The Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available to just about everyone in the U.S. and is an essential first step for anyone looking for help paying for college or career school.
